Album Notes

John McCutcheon has been a fixture in the folk music world for over thirty years. A gifted multi-instrumentalist, he honed his chops at the knees of the great legends of Appalachian music starting in the early 1970's. Besides becoming a master of the guitar, fiddle, banjo, autoharp, dulcimer, piano and hambone, he is widely recognized as one of the most influencial and gifted hammer dulcimer players in the world. Johnny Cash called him, "the most impressive instrumentalist I've ever heard!"

His twenty six albums have garnered almost every imaginable award, including an unprecedented five consecutive Grammy nominations.

His writing has been hailed "as much a template to political songwriters of his generation as the songs of Woody Guthrie or Phil Ochs were to theirs." His classic ballad, "Christmas in the Trenches" has repeatedly been called, "the most powerful anti-war song ever written."

Powerful antidotes to knee-jerk conservative so-called "patriotic" blather
author: Hank Stone
Yes, "Christmas In The Trenches" is a great song, I heard it a few years ago and have been singing it for audiences every Christmas since. Finally ordered this John McCutcheon CD, and yes I have heard some of these... The List, Talking Tinky-Winky; witty, wicked, and righteous, these tracks are powerful antidotes to the knee-jerk conservative so-called "patriotic" blather drenching the airwaves in treacly dreck... my favorites are "It's The Economy, Stupid," just brilliant, and "I Am Here," quite possibly the finest baseball song ever. Looking for more McCutcheon.
