Joan Mancini, a full-time Kindergarten teacher,
presents at conferences and writes songs to help
teachers use music and other modalities to engage
students in early literacy lessons. She recently
presented at the California Reading Association
Conference in November, 2006 and the California
Kindergarten Conference in January, 2007.
"Silly Songs For Sight Words" helps students learn
how to read and write 18 beginning sight words. The
songs help students not only recognize and spell the
words, but use the words in an engaging context rich
medium. Accompanying mini-books give students a
chance to practice writing the words and illustrating
their own song books. Primary teachers can enjoy
incorporating easy tunes and fun lyrics to make sight
words "stick" for students.
