Album Notes

This album going back on the market is a testament of my ability to make peace with the folly of my youth. -Aug. 2005

(bio written in Dec. 2000):

How I started writing songs: I was living in the desert; I was hot and bored and hungry. I pulled a guitar out of the closet and learned a C chord. Then I learned an F chord and wrote my first song. Ugh, it was so bad. I moved out of the desert and returned to civilization. That's when things really started rolling.

I now live in Brooklyn right near McCarren park, which has a garden and tennis courts, a track. there is also an a big, old, cracked-up, empty pool nearby. If I had a million dollars I would probably spend it on that-getting that old pool back into shape. It's really a beautiful pool.

Things I like: painting, birds, bikes, high-school tracks, plants, showers, public pools, rollerblades, old curtains, "found" items such as clothes, glasses and money, my darling railroad apartment, my darling cat, and my darling husband.

Here are some reviews of "The Myth of Patience":

"New Hampshire singer-songwriter Jodi Shaw has an amazing, beautiful voice that powers these eleven well-crafted tunes. Uplifting and poignant, Shaw has an uncanny ability to verbalize situations and experiences into universally accepted themes. Her guitar playing is also superb as she displays a flawless fingerpicking technique as well as a mastery of the full acoustic strum . . . Don't expect to find any filler on The Myth of Patience because Shaw's songwriting is just as moving as her performances. For an in-depth look at Jodi Shaw, check out the cover story in the June 2001 issue of Metronome."
-Douglas Sloan, Metronome Magazine, July 2001 (Boston, MA)

"Excellent vocals and lyrical beauty is difficult to come by, but there is no shortage of that here . . . This is just good music. What more could you want?"
-Michael Allison at www.theglobalmuse.com, Dec. 2000

"Jodi Shaw is a great new find on the local music scene."
-Ken Morris, Music Manager, Barnes & Nobles, (Portsmouth, NH)

"This singer-songwriter from Dover, NH is going to be a force to be reckoned with in the world of indie-alt-folk. . . Laughs, loves and losses, in any order, gut-wrenched between some beautiful tunes, topped off with a lite, creamy voice . . ."
-Ben Ohman at www.atnzone.com, Nov. 2000

"The Myth of Patience is a perplexing pop gem with hints of folk flavored throughout for one five-star favorite . . . Jodi's strong yet sometimes angelic and breathy voice takes you on a trip far beyond the lyrical tale itself."
-Melyssa A. Harmon, Get Fancy! Magazine, Feb. 2001 (Evergreen, WA)

" . . . it's Jodi Shaw's songwriting that is the real star here. Ranging from folksy, acoustic ballads to extremely non-threatening electric pop-rock, her voice carries some truly reflective and poignant lyrics to the front of the mix, allowing for an overall effect that is as hypnotic as it is intriguing; Jodi Shaw, the siren of Dover."
-Jamie Perkins, Foster's Daily Democrat Showcase Magazine, Feb. 22, 2001 (Dover, NH)

REVIEWS

Jodi Shaw is a poetic genius
author: Saul
This is Jodi's first official album, I think. It has a few rough spots but clearly demonstrates the gifts she has been given in music and poetry. Her lyrics are complex, thoughtful and very articulate. Her melodies are rich and pleasing. And on top of it all, she has a very beautiful voice. Buy this CD, but be sure to get her others! I can't stop listening.
