In Focus is the result of many inspiring experiences-from horseback rides through the sand dunes of South Dakota to my travels through Europe and the elements of Mother Nature in my own backyard. Listen for the magic beauty of a colorful flower garden, floating butterflies and soft wind chimes on a warm, sunny day. Or a gentle April rain, or the sound of combines harvesting grain on a moonlit, autumn night.
While most artists paint with colors on canvas, music artist Joe Curry paints pictures with his piano music. His easy listening piano solos invite listeners to use their imagination and envision the meanings behind the music.
Curry began piano lessons at six-years-old and continued lessons for twelve years. He first began composing music in 1998 after being inspired by other independent artists and with the encouragement of family and friends. "My music is inspired by nature and life's adventures. My challenge is to create the sounds that resemble those inspirations-whether it's a falling snowflake on a winter day or the movement of a horse through the sand dunes," Curry said. After successful sales with his 1999 debut album Milestones, Curry recorded his follow-up album In Focus in 2003.
Curry is a member of several church bands in the Minneapolis area, where he lends his talents on the piano and saxophone. He occasionally provides music at his hometown parish in South Dakota, where he first began publicly sharing his musical compositions with others.
He graduated from the University of Minnesota with a marketing degree and a Spanish minor. Curry said, "Music is my passion, and I hope to continue creating and sharing my music with others."

A Promising Beginning!
author: Kathy Parsons
“In Focus” is the second release by pianist/composer Joe Curry. Still in his early 20’s, Curry’s recording and composing career is off to a very promising start. Curry started taking piano lessons at the age of six, and continued to study music into college. His compositions are well-structured and accessible, and his motto is “piano music that paints a picture.” The fourteen tracks include thirteen piano solos and one piece that features Curry on vocals as well as piano. The mood of the album is consistently warm and optimistic, creating a cozy backdrop for daydreaming, reading, or concentrated listening. A church musician, some of the tracks have a hymn-like quality. Highlights include “Magic Beauty,” an ode to nature that celebrates wind chimes in a gentle breeze and floating butterflies. Warm and soothing with a lovely flow, this piece evokes visions of a spring morning when everything feels new. “Eyes of a Stranger” has a mysterious air about it, making it a little darker than the other pieces. “Letter to a Friend” is full of the warmth and joy felt when communicating to someone close. “Gentle Rain” is just like its title, delicate and refreshing. “Trail Ride” is a happy surprise - more of a boogie or blues piece that is full of fun. I’d like to hear more of this! “Seeds of Promise” closes the CD with optimism and a sense of moving ahead. I look forward to seeing and hearing what Curry does next.

Quiet, reflective album paints pictures with music
author: GrapeVine Magazine
Joe Curry has recently put out his latest recording of original, instrumental piano music entitled In Focus, in which the music and titles reflect specific moods, or as his CD label expresses it, "piano music that paints a picture". This style of composition, which is formally called a programmatic tone poem, was used in the late 19th century and early 20th century by such composers as Liszt, Strauss and Debussy. Joe has taken this concept and, using a contemporary styling, has offered a reflection for each instrumental piece in which you can use to further add your own reflections and ultimately lead to your own personal passions.
He is technically accomplished and makes use of a variety of melodies, harmonies and meters in this album of 14 compositions. It is very reflective, instrumentally expressing the beauty of God's creation in a subtle, quiet manner. Many Christian albums, being vocally based, will boldly proclaim the gospel. Joe has taken a different approach and allows the listener to participate in the reflection to shape their own direction. In his only vocal song of the album, "Three Shadows," Joe continues his artful expression of the Trinity in a discerning manner.
For those seeking a quiet, reflective album, "In Focus" will prove to be a welcome addition to their collection.
