Joe Euro's debut CD (1994) a much loved collection of richly textured "neo-classical" nylon string, "finger-style" guitar, and guitar/ piano compositions. His acoustic, instrumental music has been compared by syndicated reviewers such as P.J. Birosik to Windham Hill guitar legends, Wil Ackerman, Alex De Grassi, and Michael Hedges, only with that "neo-classical" nylon string sound Euro has become known for. Another reviewer called this CD "a work of joy and heart...", LLoyd Barde, Backroads.
Euro's guitar pieces have been featured on "echoes" with John Diliberto, on PRI, NPR's "Hearts Of Space" on a program titled "Wings Of Steel" as well as numerous other radio and internet broadcasts. Euro was recently featured on PRI's "West Coast Live" broadcast from the stage of the Port Townsend Wooden Boat Festival in September '06. Joe has played at this festival almost every year for quite some time too, just recently in September '08.
Joe Euro plays occassional concerts and club and restaurant venues in the Northwest, where he lives, and being classically trained, he plays a lot of weddings, both ceremonies and receptions, as well playing at many corporate and private functions and "House concerts". But he is best known for his beautiful instrumental recordings that take his listeners on musical journeys.
The track "Midnight Watch" has been featured on both, of those syndicated broadcasts, "Hearts Of Space" NPR and "echoes" PRI and is a beautiful, hauntingly ambient piece, featuring electric guitar, (a 1985 Gibson Les Paul Custom..actually) played through a large, chamber-like hall "panned out to the max" reverb, whereby the chords and notes are coaxed in utilizing a volume pedal which taper in and out, embellished with a sweet nylon string lead improv track. Inspired by quiet midnight sailings, under star-filled skies, while the rest of the crew sleeps restfully on a calm night's crossing. Why not click on that track and have a listen?
The title track, "The High Road" is a lively, upbeat Scottish feeling piece, in a DADGAD tuning. Technically brilliant, with the familiar intro/quote of the Scottish classic "You Take The Low Road, And I'll The High Road..."
The track "Child's Play" is another soft, uplifting musical journey, featuring Joe's children's laughter at the beginning, and again at the close of the piece, which is also in DADGAD, with acoustic piano (played by Euro too) with some lead nylon string improv.
"Siena Sojourn" is a composition featuring Euro's piano work, accented by classical guitar, and inspired by his European journeys...this one to the magnificent medeival Tuscan town of Siena, in central Italy.
There is a solo guitar piece Euro plucked from the Classical Guitar repertoire by Fernando Sor...the 5th study, Joe humorously titled "Sor Subject" (Estudio #5, Fernando Sor)
"AMAZING GRACE" is also covered by Euro on this CD!!! And a brief reprise Euro calls "Truly Amazing".
All tracks from Euro's "The High Road", as well as his other releases, "Eyes On The Horizon" and the NEW CD, "Souvenir" are available to listen to on CD Baby, and are available for digital download on many favorite sites such as iTunes, Rhapsody...and many more!!!
Joe's new CD, titled "Souvenir" was released this year...and has already made the TOP 25 list of the PRI syndicated radio show "echoes" 3 times this year!!! This last time in the #6 spot! "Souvenir" is an instrumental feast of guitar and piano/guitar works which are an homage to Joe's remarkable small group journeys,...fond memories of wonderful places and incredible people Joe has known and experienced, and hopefully will kindle a musical memory trigger in you, the listener, of your own fond memories!!! After all, as Euro points out in the liner notes, "the word "Souvenir" is actually the infitive form of the French verb: to remember (also a French noun for "memory") "Souvenir" has made the TOP 25 list on "echoes" 3 times this year already!!!
Euro's "The High Road" as well as Eyes On the Horizon" have received a lot of airplay on "echoes" as well over the years.
The back tray card of Euro's first CD, "The High Road" features a beautiful photo of a "High Road...trail" in the North Cascades of Washington State. Joe enjoys hiking, biking, kayaking and boating in the magnificent Pacific Northwest, and his home in the historic/Victorian seaport town of Port Townsend, Washington, is close to the Olympic Mountains, and not too far from the Cascade Mountains, Canada's Vancouver Island, Puget Sound, Strait of Juan de Fuca and the Pacific Ocean. He also loves European travel!
Joe Euro is also a wine merchant, and owns a very well regarded wine shop in Port Townsend, Washington called "The Wine Seller" that he opened in 1982. He's a bit of a gourmet cook and fine dining aficianado, and hosts small group journies to Europe and beyond, generally twice a year!!! You can click on the link on Joe's music site to his wine shop, and there is a link on the music site to his "Travel" page and also to "The Wine Seller"...click on "Travel" to read about where Joe is hosting his next trip...Fall '07, Joe hosted a small group journey for 20 people called "Wines Of The Adriatic" (Northern Italy/Slovenia/Croatia and tiny Montenegro)...and he has hosted several Barge tours in France (as recently as Fall '08) as well as tours throughout Italy and Sicily!
