Album Notes

Joe Hedges is a singer/songwriter originally from Trenton, Ohio who first enjoyed success as frontman for former major-labelers July For Kings, then as a solo artist for his critically acclaimed 2007 release Curvature.

These songs were written in Lexington, Kentucky in Hedges former apartment during the writing sessions for Curvature. They are perhaps his most intimate and revealing recordings to date. Recorded using primarily a built-in microphone on an old laptop, a childhood keyboard, and an acoustic guitar, all the attention is drawn to Hedges soulful voice and his direct, melancholic lyrics. In the spirit of Bruce Springsteen's Nebraska, this collection of songs works precisely because they are raw, off-the-cuff, and revealing. In stark contrast to the slick production of his solo record Curvature and his work with July For Kings, this is Hedges at his most fragile.

Amazing!

Such beautiful songs on this album. Messenger is a beautiful song - it needs to be on the radio. Lexington Demos is the finest acoustic I've ever heard. You won't regret getting this a listen. To pick up your "copy", you'll need to go to iTunes for it.

Allways 5 stars!

I love the fact that everyone gives both Joe and the whole of JFK's stuff 5 star, because they really deserve it. I cam across JFK about a year ago, by complete accident (thanks radioblog), and ever since, they have been my favorite band, as well as all my mates and everyone i have ever shared a car with. I seriously recommend all of joe's stuff as in my opinion, its the best around. All we need now is JFK's new album to come out and for a word tour stopping in my home town of Bristol, United Kingdom, so i can buy the band a pint! - there that good, cheers mates!

Solid release from great artist

I first came across July for Kings 5 or 6 years ago when they were offering their entire MCA debut album, SWIM, for free on their website. I've been a huge fan since then. I was very excited when July for Kings recently got back together. I also eagerly awaited the release of Joe's solo record last year and was extremely impressed the results of that project. This album isn't for everyone (actually the physical copy was only for a 100 of us). However for the person who enjoys Joe Hedge's creativity and the raw power of a simple acoustic according this album is outstanding. There is a strong link between the musician and the listener in this recording, you sort of feel like you're in Joe Hedge's apartment listening to him strum out these tunes! I really enjoyed the acoustic renditions of float away and futureflies - I would love to hear more acoustic versions of JFK and Joe Hedges material in the future. In sum if you like good acoustic music, powerful lyrics, and creativity this album is for you!
