There are more atmospherics on Joe Kuhl's "In a Doll's Head" album than there
were last week during the Leonid meteor shower. And though the
singer-songwriter-multi-instrumentalist (he handles everything on this
nine-songer) likes to think of his endeavor as chiefly British, when it comes to
his influences (see Radiohead), one can hear Kuhl kneeling at the altar of
Church at times ("Turning Blue," "Finest Day").

"In a Doll's Head" is as nuanced and delicate as miniature furniture in one of
those special-order dollhouses. But that doesn't mean Kuhl's work is quiet. He
piles so many layers of guitar and vocals on some of his songs ("Hush,"
"Flutter") we forget this is a one-man show. And then "Swindle Two" is
surprisingly upbeat for a Grim Reaper tale; John Lennon would be proud of its
wit.

"In a Doll's Head" is just good headphone rock.

I have had the honor of being in Joe Kuhl's audio class at Five Towns College in Long Island. He is a great teacher and he is an even greater musician! By listening to this cd, I understand his teaching techniques better. Everything that he ever taught me was used to create this album and it shows. My hat is off to you Joe!
Thank you for releasing such a great CD, I can't wait for the next one!

I love this Cd. It has plenty of interesting electronic sounds but it doesn't have a cold feeling to it. The lyrics are downright weird. Great soundcsapes.

WOW!! What a wonderfully new and creepy sound!!!

I loved all the wild sound effects.  They were sometimes strange and eerie, but they always blended so well with the song. I also loved how all the songs, while different, fit within an overall theme.  Great music, great lyrics and great production!!  If you like Radiohead, you'll like Joe Kuhl's music. I highly recommend it.

In a Doll's head is an amazing one man production that brings back the spirtuality of music. Influences from U2 to Radiohead to the beatles paved the way for joe to go from one corner of your soul to the deepest part of it.. This Cd needs to be heard to be experienced. A must have for anyone who is bored with the typical MTV garbage.
