Album Notes

Sometimes computer geniuses can be wrong. Having realized this, Joel Kraft left the room with all the blinking lights with a furrowed brow to write some of his best ballad work to date. Particularly poignant is the track Husserl and the Amazing, where Kraft wonders, "Is there a pedestal that you can climb to/to make it easier for God to find you.../some mechanical substitute for wings?" Or consider his observation that "you have your laugh/then some epitaph to punctuate your caper/like a mathematical description of vapor." To some degree, this album seems to be a question: is reason always the best tool we have to understand our world?

With this third release, Kraft has also created some wonderful musical moments with lush vocals, marimba, piano, guitars, and a few 'up' tracks with a full band. There are a couple cover songs, too, most notably "Heart and Soul", the song everyone knows, but never learned the words to... and the vocal performance is solid.

All in all, this album is a very pretty addition to the Kraft collection that will stay with you long after the sweet harmonies of the final song fade into silence.
