Folk Rocker Extraordinaire with an Exceptional Gift For Intricate Yet Memorable
author: Rob Lincoln
I picked up this CD cold because I liked the songwriter's name, Mannix, like the old TV show. What a find it was! This guy can really write melodies. Everything he writes sounds interesting and fresh because of his melodic gifts, at least on this cd, his debut. His lyrics are not bad either, always passionate and poetic and never cliche. His songs range from anthemic folk rock, island tinged acoustic, meditative pop to winding melodic song poems--all with great hooks and interesting chord progressions. His voice is reminiscent Ron Sexsmith and Phil Ochs, but he sings with a lot more power than either...(for more of this review go to cdreviewsonline.com)

Wow, this is an amazing piece of work. Amazing songwriting and a great recorded vibe. There is not a bad song on this disc. A rare thing these days. A splendid mix of rock folk and pop. Joe Mannix is perhaps the best Singer Songwriter I've heard in many years. Get this CD! I can't wait for the follow up!

Mannix mixes FOLK and POP into one AMAZING album
author: Bruce Lomet (CHINASKI)
White Flag is a musical rarity - a CD with a full track listing of amazing songs. Joe Mannix mixes folk and pop into one amazing album. One of my favorite tracks is the Caribbean tinged "Port Aransas" that sounds a lot like Brent Tyler's guitar and vocal style. Mannix is a great Harmonica player as well. This is showcased on a number of songs. It's always great when a talented songwriter gets noticed and hopefully White Flag will allow Joe Mannix that chance. There are no duds on this CD. I haven't taken this one out of my CD player.

Self-described as "Phil Ochs meets PF Sloan with The Band," one thing is for sure- this is dark and deep Americana that shouldn't be missed. With an exceptional talent to blend the accessibility of a gentle Pop style with the edgy and gutsy substance of Americana and Folk, Joe Mannix keep your ears perked up and the heart in waiting with his personable style that sings with the occasional stylistic references of David Gray and with the familiar and comfortable groove of 70's classic rock.
