Joe Norton – The Kid Inside
Hi, and welcome to the World of “The Kid Inside.” I hope that you enjoy this compilation of songs, both old and new, songs of laughter and love, relationships, and loss...
My singing career began at the age of seven as a choirboy in St. Cecilia's Church in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, and it continued for many years after that at The Hoople Inn(neighborhood saloon), which was located two doors down from the tenement in which I grew up. An exiting place to be, The Hoople Inn influenced me deeply - its cardsharps, crapshooters, musicians, singers and dancers all played a role in shaping my desire to be a singer.
My parents were Irish immigrants and they raised a large family. My siblings, nine young Nortons in all, affectionately referred to me as “The Kid.” It was a sunshine and shadow relationship I had with my father. You see, I was disappointed by his refusal to pay for singing lessons for "the kid", that I, in turn, refused to sing his favorite song, “Danny Boy.” This is a decision I now deeply regret.
Retired from the New York City Fire Department, I now take singing lessons and I continue to perform and take classes in cabaret and musical theatre.
Finally, “The Kid Inside” has finally become a reality.
