notes
Joe Price grew up in blue collar Waterloo, Iowa. He received his first guitar at age 9 from his brother, who was leaving home for military service.
The fire to play slide was lit when he saw Earl Hooker perform at the local music store. He ran home, grabbed a hack saw and went to the neighbor's house. Joe took the handle grip off the neighbor boy's bicycle, proceeded to saw off his first slide and began his career as a blues musician.
Joe moved to Iowa City after high school. The move proved to be a once- in- a-life-time opportunity. The great blues musicians - Muddy Waters, John Lee Hooker, Honey Boy Edwards, Willy Dixon, KoKo Taylor, Hound Dog Taylor, JB Hutto and many more - were using Iowa City as a stop over on their midwest tours. Joe not only had the chance to see these musicians perform; by that time he was a full-time musician himself and was often invited to open the show. He had the privilege of listening to and learning from the finest blues musicians of the time.
Joe has now been performing for over 30 years. He was inducted into the Iowa Blues Hall of Fame in 2003. He also received the honor of appearing in the National Guitar Catalogue playing the "National ResoLectric Guitar". Joe has 3 single CD's released at this time, featuring his stunning slide work and original songs.
Joe's music is flavored more to the juke joint end of the blues: a bit rough and tons of fun. Have you seen the bluesman seated in a chair, driving the rhythm of the song with a thumb like a hammer, while the dancers on the floor are about to bring the house down? You might have some idea of what Joe's shows are all about.
Joe is a great example of how one learns to do stuff right - slide technique, study of the masters - and then learns to break all the rules to make his music truly unique and all his own.

Joe Price is simply the "BEST" blues man in the upper Mississippi River Valley. I have expierienced him live and on cd. If your foot does not start tapping to this man's music, you do not have a soul. Keep up the good work Joe.

Joe Prices Music is not just like anything you have heard before, we honestly think if you give it a long hard listen you will become a big fan as we have.We CAN HONESTLY SAY, Our Joe Price CDs are playing in our vehicles 90 % of the time because his music is addicting to say the least....try some you will see.
Middlin' Blues Again
author: L.J. SklenarThis follows up on my earlier (two-stars) review of this CD. I listened to Designated Driver again, and realized that I need to cut some slack for "country (Delta) blues," as opposed to "city (Chicago) blues." Tracks 4, 6, and 8 are the ones I described earlier as "jammin'," and Price has fun with lyrics (I Don't Know Why, and Designated Driver), but—again—the live performance I heard was much better than this very average CD.
Can't help but start moving and swaying to the music
author: Patty BI won't pretend to be a music genuius, I just love to listened to all kinds of music. Joe Price's music makes me start moving and swaying. His guitar sounds like a voice talking to me. It reminds me of younger days when I moved and swayed alot more!
...immediate, honest heart'punch
author: Jim MusserJoe Price creates music that manages to score an immeidate, honest heart-punch....Singer song-writer Greg Brown long has referred to this charmed blues oracle as "The Buddha," and the 9 Price originals on this set are all the explantion you'll need for that moniker. The lone cover drags an electric guitar through a time machine for a 19th century take on "Red River Valley".
