Album Notes

Inthology is an album made up of the “best of” Joey’s acoustic songs from his Emerald Green Universe, Cedar St., and Idyllwild (now out of print) albums, along with some slack key guitar/instrumental tracks recently recorded. Perhaps the best way to describe the project would be to say it is like Simon and Garfunkel with Hawaiian guitars, incorporating elements of Yo La Tango, Frank Zappa, Death Cab For Cutie, and perhaps Nick Drake. Think rich vocal harmonies and well thought out instrumentation, combined with diverse lyrical ideas.

Featured extensively on the album is the flute and sax work of Frank Zappa Band alumni, Paul Carman, who brings his background playing free jazz and improvisation to the project. Other musicians appearing on Inthology include acoustic bassist Bill Plummer (Tom Waits, Rolling Stones, Miles Davis,) drummer Rick Schlosser (Van Morrison, Jackson Browne, James Taylor,) keyboardist Barnaby Finch (Lee Ritenour, George Benson, Lionel Ritchie,) and virtuoso mandolin player Don Reed (J.J. Cale, Dick Dale and the Deltones.)
