Album Notes

Johanna is originally from Saratoga Springs, NY. She has played music her entire life - beginning with the violin at age 7. She later joined the Empire State Youth Orchestra, where she got the opportunity to tour and play in Austria and Hungary. She was also involved in band and chorus.

In 2000, Johanna moved to Nashville, TN and by 2002 began learning the craft of songwriting (and how to play guitar!). Since then, she has joined the band, Shed, where she adds the harmony vocals to their sound. The summer of 2007 brought her the opportunity to tour with Shed to and play at venues such as Indian Ranch and the Hampton Beach Casino, where they opened for Gretchen Wilson. They will be making this trip again, along with opening for Charlie Daniels this fall...

You can find Johanna playing acoustic shows, as well as full band shows, all around Nashville.

Years ago I drew a line in the sand and decided I could no longer stomach what "country" music had become. The shift had fallen away from creative souls with a guitar and a message to become something entirely differant, and too often that was a pop singer with less vocal range attempting to spread republican campaign materials. I swore off country for years. While in Nashville I happened to catch Johanna at a small show and was amazed at the purity of her voice and the passion of her delivery. The drive from TN to IA gave me a long time to think and I found her lyrics came back to me and had left a lasting impression. The first thing I did got back was order the album. Jacobsen's words let you know that she understands your hardships and inspires to do our best. Highly recommended.
