Jan Johansson is still eurpeans piano player No. one
author: Manfred Scheffner (Bielefelder Katalog Jazz)
'8 bitar' maybe is the best solo/trio album of Jan Johansson The timing, blues-feeling and swing is fantastic. 'Willow weep for me' is one of the most beautiful instrumental interpretations of this blues-ballad and there are many!

Two early sixties LPs of inventive piano trio jazz, now available on one CD. These sparkling recordings were praised by the critics and the public alike. This is fundamentally a bebop/jazz combo album, but there is a great deal of creativity at work; this is quirky stuff. Great jazz by a man who is popularly considered the formost Swedish jazz musician.

Swinging music full of variety and vitality.
author: Graham Roberts
This CD has a varied mixture of original tunes and standards. Jan's music is full of vitality using nice tunes to create an infectious swing or a relaxed atmosphere as appropriate. The music is sometimes urgent and often very bluesy and soulful. A great variety of sounds come from Jan's piano and the rest of the trio, ranging from the gentle and delicate to the percussive. This must be piano trio music at its best and brings to mind the music of Oscar Peterson and other great piano players, while at the same time remaining very much Jan Johansson's music.

Hear the symphonic composer Lundquist's piece for jazztrio!
author: kaupenjohann
The first reason for me, to by this CD is the Nr. 14: Snälltåg (4:10) from the swedish pianist and composer Torbjörn Ivan Lundquist (1920-2000). And the "rest" is beautiful too! (Read other reviews of this item!) If you want to know more about Lundquist, go to www.augemus.de/autoren/lundquist.html and www.augemus.de/buecher/Band4.html.
