Album Notes
Hi. This is John Autin and I'd like to tell you a little bit about this CD. I don't make many CD for myself. This is only my 2nd. Since my 1st CD, and after being a player in New Orleans all my life I went back to school and received a Masters Degree in Jazz Performance from the University of New Orleans. I spent 8 Hours a day behind the piano for a couple years, 4 practice and, 4 performing. I've been refining as one of my Teachers Terence Blanchard called, the accent of Jazz. Meaning Jazz is a language and just like anyone who grows up speaking one language and then learns another language as an adult, it's difficult for them to sound like a native with the new Language Growing up as a funk, R N B, and Roots rocker, I had to spend a lot of time studying Jazz because I sounded like a Rock N Roller. It's been a lot of work and I've had a blast playing and learning from the deep stable of Jazz players and teacher here in New Orleans.
I learned a couple hundred Jazz standards that I play and every night at my solo gig. When I hooked up with my producer, Cindy Scott, I sat down and recorded them all over a couple days playing and singing, and Instrumentals. She picked the ones I sounded best on and we picked the standards on the CD from those. Then I had a couple originals, and some songs by great songwriter friends of mine that that I loved and wanted to record.
