The love for acoustic guitar really shines through on this collection of original instrumental compositions. This recording captures the natural sound of several beautiful acoustic instruments. The next best thing to live music, this collection invokes an intimate house concert setting.

John has had many great musical influences, which lie at the heart of his unique soothing sound. Versatile in both fingerstyle and flatpick styles, John has pulled together a fresh cohesive set of instrumentals; bound to please fans of the acoustic guitar. Over 40 minutes of music.

Enjoy!

As a singer/songwriter, I enjoy a good blend of guitar & voice. I often find that many instrumental CD's don't hold my attention for more than three or four songs. John Cooper's 'Acoustic Rough Sketches 1' is different. John's playing is among the best of finger-style (in my opinion). His arrangements are so easy to listen to, and so comfortable. Breezin', the first on the playlist, sets up the whole CD. It's like a breath of fresh air. Find yourself a comfy chair and a set of earphones and travel to the land of blissful sound. Great job John - love your sound(s).

As a working musician and guitar maker, I bring to the table a decent mix of ability and high expectations: When it comes to evaluating player-composers, I don’t admitting that I’m a snob... That said, Acoustic Rough Sketches is quite simply a must-have disc for lovers of fingerstyle guitar. This disc exceeded all my expectations, and you’ll want it in your collection. Cooper reveals wonderful technique and notable talent in his compositions. His style and taste come through clearly, in a manner that absolutely feeds one’s listening desires. Cooper’s influences are notable in their origins, but he does not merely cop licks or genres; his style is his own, and it is a very pleasant one indeed. Truly fine playing is evocative, and Cooper falls into this genre: While fingerstyle players who truly stand out are rare to my ear, he most certainly does: St. Francis said, “Preach the Gospel always, and if necessary, use words;” Cooper is preaching fingerstyle gospel on this disc, and the messages and images come through loud and clear. Just as Eric Tingstad and Nancy Rumbel have made glorious careers of evocative acoustic music, John Cooper is not far behind. .
