"Take Me Home - a Tribute to John Denver" - features Bonnie Prince Billy, Low,
Tarnation, The Innocence Mission, Rachel Haden (from that dog), Sunshine Club,
Hannah Marcus, Granfaloon Bus, James Hindle and Red House Painters.
Red House Painters frontman, Mark Kozelek, compiled this remarkable collection of
popular and obscure songs of John Denver. Each song was recorded specifically for
this tribute.
As John Denver was a supporter of animals, a portion of the proceeds will benefit
Pets In Need - a non profit organization dedicated to bringing loving, healthy homes
to adoptable animals. They strongly support the movement called "No-Kill."
"My idea for this record is to take artists that are less likely to be associated with John
Denver, have them open up a new audience to his songs, and give exposure to his
popular as well as less known but significant work." - Mark Kozelek

Surprising, varied, intriguing.

I suppose I've never listened to much John Denver, so when first listening to this album, I was often surprised to realize that certain songs were originally by John Denver. I really enjoy the variety of song styles, voices and arrangements. I hear something new every time I listen.

A Brilliant Tribute for A Brilliant Artist!
author: Matt St. Hubbins
Take Me Home captures the warmth and love of John Denver's wholesome music from the mellow pop of the Innocence Missions interpretation of Follow Me to the rockin' of the Red House Painters version of Fly Away. Mark Koselek has assembled a brilliant display of artists giving homage to one of the most influential homegrown singer/songwriters of our time! My personal favorites are Rachel Hayden doing Poems, Prayers and Promises, Mark Koselek and Rachel Goswell doing Around and Around, James Hindle doing Whispering Jesse and of course Low doing an utterly beatiful version of Back Home Again. All in all this tribute sparkles with the down home goodness of John Denver and brings many of his classic songs into the new millenium! Do yourself a favor and remember the songs you know and love remade by some of todays most underrated artists, in other words Go buy it NOW!!!
