Album Notes

Scots guitarist, Johnguitars’ passion is to see the guitar reinstated to its rightful place as an instrument to be listened to for its own sake and not simply to be seen as something to hang around the neck of a singer. An entire generation has forgotten that, outside of the classical world, the guitar can actually be used to play a melody and an accompaniment at the same time. A thing regarded as commonplace on the piano but now seen as out of reach by today’s myopic guitar teachers and students alike.

The Year Album is played on a Tokai 335 semi-acoustic. The only effect used is a little reverb. You will not find any distortion of the pure sound of the instrument or, “Dentist’s drill noises,” as JG calls them. Instead you will find twelve soothing instrumentals each reflecting the mood of its namesake month. September which in the UK is when we remember the Battle of Britain, being a sound poem following an aerial dogfight. These moods often reflect John’s personal life, November is a time for memories of loss and the plaintive minor tune echoes John’s sadness.

May you know the peace of the Lord as you listen.
