John Hartford, Vassar Clements and Tony Rice are bluegrass music great and virtuosos respectively on the banjo, fiddle and guitar. This album was done during a series of recording session between 1988 and 1990. The album is produced by Mark Howard.
“It’s really great that this combination of musicians got together and actually recorded,” said Howard. “They were all each other’s biggest fans.”
Rice, one-third of the collaboration, called the jam sessions an opportunity for three friends with mutual respect and “a shared love for the music” to “get back to the roots.”
“It was a hell of a lot of fun,” Rice recalls. “The room sounded great, with the rock wall. It was not thought-out at all. We said, ‘Let’s start playing what we know.’ ”
