Album Notes

Guitarist/bassist John Herdt met drummer Wally Z through the Tommy Bolin scene, where John created and runs the Tommy Bolin Archives web site and produced five of the CD releases of rare Tommy Bolin recordings. They both shared a love of Bolin's music, as well as bands such as the Sweet, Pink Floyd, Pat Travers and other classic rock bands with standout material. Both have played at Tommy Bolin Music Festivals and with many of Tommy's friends and contemporaries such as drummers Bobby Berge and Johnnie Bolin, and keyboardist Tommy Stephenson.

Their two previous CDs combined instrumental and vocal tracks, but this time out it's all instrumental, and for the first time they have a guest joining them on the track titled "Busted": Tommy Stephenson who played with Tommy Bolin in Energy, and later with Joe Walsh in Barnstorm and Joe's solo albums, Gary Wright and more.

The tracks on October Sky range from hard rock with elements of progressive and funk to contemplative melodic tracks that stick in your head after you've gotten out from under your headphones. There is a lot of space in the material, in an effort to gain interest through the details, hooks and emotion rather than a constant flood of sound. This is the sound of hard rock musicians with a wide variety of music that feeds their muse. Music where you can pick out a new surprise each time you hear it.

JOHN HERDT: Guitars, bass
WALLY Z: Drums, percussion
TOMMY STEPHENSON: Keyboards on "Busted"
