Album Notes

Ths album features suites dedicated to two wonderful musicians. The first, Glenn Gould (RIP) was a Canadian pianist famous for his Bach and his eccentrities. He was fond of "The Idea of North", which relates to the change in people's perceptions and character as you move further north in Canada.

John Fahey (also RIP)is known as "The Father of American Primitive Guitar". He has influenced people who haven't even heard of him, because the whole solo guitar thing started with him.

For listening to "Glenn Gould" I suggest
1. Improvisation on CD318 (the serial number of his Yamaha grand piano) - a one take improvisation over a repeated chord progression.
2. A Boy And His Dog - people tell me I should have made it longer, but once it's done, it's done.
6. 1981 - a ballad (GG died in 1981)

For John Fahey
9. Up With The Sun (African Morning) - starts sparsely, then really kicks in.
10. The Repentance Of Robert Johnson - I never bought that stuff about RJ selling his soul to the devil in return for guitar virtuosity. The awesome synth and drum sounds in this piece were supplied by a friend in Germany, Lothar Reitz.

"Asked The Lord above have mercy, save poor Bob if you please" - Robert Johnson - 1936

A word about my music.

Technically I am a blues guitarist who is trying to write beautiful music. I try to take people to new musical places.

I would say that it is
- unique, I've yet to come across a similar style
- all original
- has a blues/jazz/soulful, sometimes even a spiritual feel
- contains either solo or overdubbed pieces
- sometimes features blues harp, slide guitar and synth

Most of my albums are instrumental and feature extensive improvisation. I like writing suites, it enables me to focus. I'm more interested in sound than songs. I listen mostly to string quartets, classical and occasionally blues and jazz.

If you are in any way interested in what I was playing in my youth, I have over six hours of my early bands playing blues/jazz/rock in Perth, Western Australia in the 60's and 70's. These are in MP3 format, and available for listening and/or download, at my website.
