John Kregor: Guitar
Since turning his interest to jazz in 1995, John Kregor has received awards for outstanding musicianship from I.A.J.E. (International Association of Jazz Educators), the Western States Jazz Festival, and two from S.C.S.B.O.A. (Southern California School Band and Orchestra Association). He was also a featured soloist in the 1996 Southern California High School All-Star Jazz Band. John recently earned his bachelors degree in jazz composition with high honors from the University of Texas at Austin. He studied classical guitar with Adam Holzman, composition with Rick Lawn, Dr. Mark Schultz and Dan Welcher, and jazz guitar with Jeff Hellmer and Mitch Watkins. He was also given the opportunity to play with and write for Michael Brecker, and Peter Erskine and was awarded the Kent Kennan scholarship for his musical accomplishments. In his hitherto brief tenure in the Chicago area, John has established a studio of over forty students, and has begun playing in and around town with the Mike Jeffers Trio, B-Dawg Quartet, Ted Hogarth Quartet, Big Joe's Jazz All Stars, Michelle Thomas, Denise LaGrassa and many other great musicians, including Chicago greats Johnny Frigo and Mark Colby.
Alex Bednarke: Double Bass
Born and raised in Chicago, Alex earned a Bachelor's Degree in Music Performance from Northeastern Illinois University, where he studied on a full music scholarship with renown jazz bassist Kelly Sill, classical bassist and member of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra John Floeter, and bandleader Mayo Tiana. Alex was also involved in master classes led by recording artists; Straight Ahead, Doug Lawerence (member of the Thad Jones/Mel Lewis Orchestra), Art Davis, and John Campbell, as well as performing in the String Orchestra and Jazz Ensemble with guest artist Harold Jones (drummer for Count Basie). Alex has been playing professionally around the Chicago area for over 10 years. He has played with numerous artists, including: Redd Holt, Rusty Jones, Robert Shy, Marc Pompe, and was the bassist for the Scott Holman Trio. For over 2 1/2 years Alex was the house bassist for Big Joe's Jazz Masters. He currently leads his new trio Orb, that plays all original music.
Dave Beegun: Drums
Chicago native David Beegun has been playing the drums since age 9. His early teachers include Todd Sucherman of Styx, Paul Wertico of The Pat Metheny Band, and Joel Spencer of DePaul University. While in high school, David started to hone his jazz skills by performing in the school jazz band, forming his first quartet with friends, and sitting in at professional jam sessions. At the sessions he gained valuable insight on the jazz world from giving and talented musicians such as Rusty Jones, Robert Shy, and Brad Goode. At age 18, David attended The University of North Texas in Denton Tx. to study jazz. His peers included an extremely talented batch of musicians such as Ari Hoenig of the Kenny Werener Band, Norah Jones, and Robert Gomez. During his five years in Denton, David studied music theory, piano, general percussion under Ron Fink and Robert Schitroma, and was mentored by jazz drum set educator Ed Soph in private lessons. He also performed in school small groups and large ensembles in addition to playing gigs in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area. In August of 2000, David finished school and moved back to Chicago to start his professional career. He currently keeps an active schedule of of teaching, performing, rehearsing, and practicing. David has performed with an array of Chicago musicians including Eddie De Hass, Von Freeman, and Steve Millon.
