Violinist Ruthie Dornfeld and guitarist John Miller are a compelling duo whose music--romantic, elegant, evocative--casts an irresistible spell. John and Ruthie play an interesting and varied repertoire of World Music, including Brazilian choros, Argentine tangos, French musette waltzes and Finnish polskas.
Ruthie Dornfeld has been fiddling for over 25 years in a host of musical configurations. She has toured extensively throughout the USA, Europe, Russia and Brazil, performing and teaching traditional fiddle music, and has been a member of the American Cafe Orchestra, the Quirks, the French cabaret group Rouge, and the Euro/Balkan group Cerise.
John Miller's 30 years as a guitarist include solo performances and recordings as well as ensemble work in country blues, bluegrass, old-time and jazz genres. He currently accompanies jazz vocalist Rebecca Kilgore, plays in a duo with mandolinist John Reischman and in Rouge. In addition, John is a gifted composer whose tunes have been recorded by numerous artists.
In addition to performing in their duo together, Ruthie and John are members of the exciting Finnish-American band Freshet, which also has a CD available at CDBaby.

author: Acoustic Guitar
John Miller, long an acoustic guitar cult hero, has partnered with fiddler Ruthie Dornfeld on this wide-ranging collection of duets that include many of his own compositions. Miller's fingerstyle playing is unique, and his musical ideas are eclectic. On Latin numbers, like the Brazilian choro "Cheguei", the fiddle soars over his wonderfully percussive groove. On slower numbers such as the hauntingly lovely "Sicilienne", his guitar work is sparser and more melodic, almost classical in feel. For some beautiful tunes and fine playing, give this disc a listen.
