John, great CD. My only regret was that it was too short.  But then again, quality over quantity.  Do keep up the good work, and we're looking forward to seeing you and the APLP boys come through Houston one of these days.  In the meantime, see you on the Internet.

While I have heard a number of EP's from artists, my favorites tend to be the more cohesive efforts like Rashmi Singh's Rainstorm and Lowlight's Bloodline.  However, John Montagna's SENZA achieves a degree of cohesion on par with many long-play concept albums.  SENZA unfolds with a smart pop song, then a solo bass with vocal, a tremendous three part progressive odyssey, solo bass with supportive vocal harmonies, and finally an uplifting pop melody to bring everything full circle.  While I have really enjoyed Four Eighteen's PLEASANT TENSION and his debut ENJOY YOUR DESSERT, SENZA is thus far John Montagna's finest hour!  By trimming the fat wherever it was found, there is not a single weak moment to detract from the listening experience once one has taken SENZA in a few times.  "Stone in the Water" alone is worth the price of the whole, a progressive epic that chronicles the life of a stone traveling the ocean currents before vanishing from the effects of erosion.  And best of all, the physical product is a beautifully designed cardboard foldout that is Christmas gift quality.  If you have never entered the world of John Montagna, this is where the rabbit hole begins...

It amazes me how each of John's releases just seem to get better and better. On his latest release, Senza , the music, the lyrics, the production, and all-around quality are absolutely outstanding! John really gives 110% on every song from the incredibly emotive "Oblivious" to the simple but elegantly harmonious "You are Safe", to the slightly more edgy "Stone In the Water", you will not be disappointed. My one complaint is that there are only 5 songs and it leaves me wanting more...
