notes
"Pop music with a conscience, framed by gospel, jazz, classic rock and techno." --Goldmine Magazine
*****
Much of 'Fire' was inspired by life on the streets of San Francisco, where Johnny J Blair lived for many years. Keith Hannalek of Musicdish.com noted that "'Fire' is like walking down Market Street in San Francisco."
Instrumentation ranges from reggae-fied dub organ to psychedelic resonator guitars to ersatz Gershwin pianos. The eclectic cast of collaborators includes Davy Jones of the Monkees (who contributed to three songs), keyboardist/synth-master John Bechdel (Fear Factory, Killing Joke, Ministry), as well as drummer/percussionists Jab'O Starks (James Brown), the late "Pistol" Allen (many Motown sessions), Sir Henry Gibson (Curtis Mayfield) and Sandy Gennaro (Robin Gibb, Joan Jett, Bo Diddley, Cyndi Lauper).
