In 1991, after twenty years of the blues scenes of Providence, Detroit-Ann Arbor, Chicago, Texas, the Bay Area and the Cajun country of Louisiana, Johnny Nicholas played on and produceed the late Johnny Shines's last album (with Snooky Pryor). Until then, that was the only way you could hear Nicholas on any recording. Then in 1994, Antones released his CD Thrill On The Hill, a live CD which brought him again to the forefront of the world blues scene again. And now he has finished a new CD, Rockin' My Blues To Sleep, for TopCat Records. This CD is a more refined studio recording produced by none other than blues player and producer extraordinaire Stephen Bruton. Subtitled "Texas / Louisiana Blues & Dance Hall Favorites", Nicholas' lastest effort host an internationally famous line up of talent and tunes. Featuring Marcia Ball (piano, vocals and recently appearing with B.B. King), Steve Bruton (guitarist for Emmy Lou Harris) and Doug Sahm's horn section makes this CD cook like a 24hr. New Orleans kitchen. Austin's favorite, veteran blues guitarist Bill Campbell adds the hot sauce to a perfect plate of gulf coast R 'n B. The popular, world touring Nicholas serves up yet another work of great musicians and infectious classic and original tunes. Every fan of Johnny's and the "real stuff" will be thrilled to add this new Topcat release to their collection. This CD is proof of Johnny Nicholas' blues acumen and is a joy to listen to. Without a doubt, this CD is a testament to the fact that Johnny is back in force. Welcome home!
