Album Notes

CD Highlights:
"Window"
"Shame"
"Faith"

John is an independent singer/songwriter with a wide array of influences that serve to shape his music. His knack for melody, hooks, and lyrical depth pay homage to a childhood spent continuously exploring the works of The Beatles, Cheap Trick, Pink Floyd, Queen, and so many others. In fact, he learned the drums with AC/DC's "Highway To Hell" album and used his many other musical inspirations to teach himself to play the guitar and sing as well.

His debut CD "Does Not Play Well With Others" is a themed album that takes an introspective and sometimes dark look at personal relationships. This collection of 15 songs showcases his laidback performing style, layered guitars, and lush harmonies. A true solo project, John played and sang nearly all of the parts while acting as his own engineer/producer.

A native of Maryland with a dry wit, he developed his talents while working with numerous local bands and studio projects. Easily filling the roles of both bassist and vocalist, he quickly found himself in demand and anxious to play simply for the sheer joy of making music. In mid 2002 he followed his muse to begin the monumental task of putting together a solo album, and achieved his goal 18 months later. Currently John resides in Houston Texas, and continues to write and record new material.

Good ol' ROCK and ROLL songs! Some of them very Beatle-esque with other styles thrown in for good measure. Very clean recording. Sounds GREAT for a self recorded, self engineered CD. Very nearly perfect! If you are into old school rock, check out John P. Barton's "Does Not Play Well With Others". You won't be disappointed.

John has come up with a great collection of very original and intriguing tracks. You can definitely hear his Beatles influence, but there's a lot of other stuff scattered throughout the disc that definitely make it a worthwhile addition to your collection. John's talent, passion and wit shine through on every cut.

...Barton takes his love for rock music and his propensity for writing folk songs and marries them into a unique sound that showcases his immense talent. “DOES NOT PLAY WELL WITH OTHERS” is the 2003 offering from Barton, who’s alternative rock influences shine through with acoustic accents and well-placed effects. Barton pens all but one of the fifteen tracks, and co-writes the remaining track. This self-produced project garners a fan’s following as Barton frequents several acoustic hot spots around the city... --www.MyTexasMusic.com--
