ABOUT THIS ALBUM

Album Notes
Dance music and song from around the world: Ireland Scotland, England, Australia, Venezuela. Waltzes, marches, jigs, reels and songs. Something for everyone to listen to and enjoy. Music played in the tradition of each country with each style of music possessing it's own flavour and feel. Played with bouncy rhythm and at times heartbreaking emotion.
John Redmond was born in County Wexford and learned at an early age learned from his mother a simple little polka on a battered old accordion that somehow ended up in their home. Other relatives who heard that he had started to play taught him common Irish waltzes and marches. At age 10 he was formally brought for traditional Irish music lessons to Tom Dunne. Tom lived in the neighboring village of Castledockrill. Pretty soon John was playing in Fleadh competitions and proceeded to be a 4 time All Ireland winner. He stopped playing in his late teens and moved to Dublin and then New York where he now resides. About 1995 he started playing music again and became a well known face on the session scene in the New York area, which he is still involved in today. He has guested on many CD's and in 2001 released a solo CD, entitled ”East to Northeast", featuring guest performers such as Kevin Burke, Ged Foley and Eamon O’Leary.
Earle Hitchner in his Irish Echo review segment Trad beat ( Review titled "Blissfully Back on the Box") of John’s CD “East to Northeast” that "the tempo of Redmond's playing never barters vitality for mere virtuosity....Each note is perfectly executed to form a sum larger than the parts...
