With the release of this live recording we hear John Sandor (hailed as "the great American tenor") perform a unique selection of arias with the Wilmington Symphony Orchestra. Classics like Nessun Dorma, Di Quella Pira and Mattinatta are included here and showcase marvelous performances. Mr. Sandor sings with tremendous verve and power... his expression soars freely with a beautiful and unique timbre - at once dark and warm yet bright and shining.
Luciano Pavarotti, upon seeing John perform the opera 'Tosca' called him "the tenor's tenor"; Placido Domingo praises his "clarion high notes"; and José Carreras acclaimed Sandor's "extraordinary musicality and big easy high notes."
Also on this CD are two rarities: the Verdi aria is popular but the cabaletta included here has never before been recorded and it is a treat to hear; boisterous and exciting. Puccini's 'Le Villi' is an opera rarely performed, however, the music is sublime and deeply moving. On this CD we have the ballet and Mr. Sandor's singing of the aria.
A graduate of the Oberlin Conservatory and the Juilliard School of Music, John enjoys an international career. The tenor has sung opposite Joan Sutherland at the Miami Opera, Beverly Sills at New York City Opera, Montserrat Caballé in Barcelona, and in Paris for an international broadcast performance of 'Romeo and Juliet'. Through the years he has been a leading tenor with the New York City Opera, the Berlin Opera and the Philadelphia Lyric Opera as well as other major opera houses throughout the U.S. and Europe.
