Album Notes

Kentucky’s original “Rock ‘n Roll Repertory Orchestra,” the Johnson Brothers Band specializes in performing meticulously reproduced renditions of challenging large-band material rarely heard in clubs or concerts. They play “the hard stuff.” From rock to funk, blues to jazz fusion, the range and depth of their repertoire is unrivaled in the region.

During its 16-year history, the band has performed The Beatles’ “Sgt. Peppers Lonely Hearts Club Band” and “White Album” in their entirety, served as the sole live orchestration for theatrical productions of “Hair” and “Jesus Christ Superstar,” and showcased evenings devoted entirely to the music of George Harrison, Steely Dan, the Allman Brothers and the year 1969. It previously played “Tommy” in a University of Kentucky production in 1997. So accurate are the band’s performances that The Idea Festival, a four-day conference of “extraordinary thinkers,” selected them to play at the reception for Sir George Martin following his presentation of "The Making of the Greatest Album of All Time: Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band." Now, that’s an endorsement! In addition, the band has produced a CD of original material called “Tastes Like Chicken,” a powerful combination of funk, rock, jazz, blues and Latin influences.

Members include Bill Fairchild (bass), Jim Gleason (guitar/guitar synth), Dave Hamon (drums/keyboards), Steve Pasquariello (guitar/keyboards), Marty Walker (drums/flute) and Harold Young (keyboards).

These cats know how to play & most importantly, they know when not to play. This is some very tasty stuff. One of the biggest joys 'bout listening to this CD, is that each song is a little stylistically different then the one before. And these guys do something that a LOT of bands need to do today...don't worry 'bout no formula, don't worry 'bout no trends. Just play some good music...PERIOD!!! If you like it Funky, Rockin', Bluesy, Jazzy & you like great music & songs, you'll like this band & this CD.

Lots of great playing here, with good songs, particularly Get Lucky, Tonight, One Step and Uncle Charlie with its opening 5/4 groove. Funky as the "other" Brothers Johnson with influences from Little Feat and the Eagles. Good stuff
