Album Notes

John Townsend

Since John's voice and music first appeared on the airwaves a few years back, his stamp has been on a wide range of successful recordings spanning three decades. At last count he has performed as either a vocalist, writer or player on over 40 gold and platinum albums worldwide. His musical successes started in his college years and have continued to the present. His college band, The Rubber band had a chart record with "Let Love Come Between Us" for Columbia Records. Since coming to Los Angeles in the late 60's he's added to his resume with hits like "Friends" by the group Feather, but probably his most noted effort is "Smoke From A Distant Fire" with the Sanford/Townsend Band. John has penned songs with other artists of legendary status like Kenny Loggins, Gregg Allman and Larry Carlton, to name a few. Through the years he has also been the vocalist on many prominent national commercials and has had a number of his songs selected for major motion pictures.
John has brought all his artistry and experience to the table with his friend for 25 years, recording engineer/producer Alex Kazanegras. Alex has has been involved with many successful records over the years. We can't list them all, so for now we'll just mention Loggins and Messina, Weather Report, Sly and The Family Stone and Janis Joplin. 'Nuff said. Together John and Alex have created an extraordinary album, that by John's own admission, is the best thing he's ever done. The CD is entitled "The Road Leads Home" was released January 20th, 2003. John's left nothing behind...still does terrific writing that feels good. A new take on Smoke From a Distant Fire reflects an uncommon maturity in this artist. At this point in his life, John takes the high road to the places that touch all of us. He never forgot where the road began and has never been better. This album is a nice piece of work.
