At age 10 he moved to Concord, North Carolina with his family where he began an avid pursuit of music. As a Teenager, John was very active in school music programs as Choral Accompanist, and playing a variety of instruments in the high school band, as well as winning the John Phillip Sousa Award and National Music Award given to outstanding musicians at the High School Level.
