John Winn’s third CD, Colorado Mountain Song, is a compilation of original songs inspired by the mountains, canyons, and legends of the mountain west. John’s finger-pickin’ style and clear tenor voice make this CD a must-have for those familiar with the troubadour style of his music. Each song has an introduction telling the story of its creation.
Colorado Mountain Song is a beautiful ballad celebrating mountains of the state. Several of John’s songs on this CD speak of war. They’ll give me flowers every time I drop a bomb speaks of the manipulation of intelligence that our government used to lead us into this conflict. Sarah speaks of the terrible loss and pain of those who are left behind to mourn the loss of loved ones.
Cottonwood Gold is a song about the beautiful autumn in our state and the magnificent cottonwood trees of western Colorado. David is Gone is a tribute to an old friend and folk pioneer, Dave Van Ronk, and a memorial to his passing from the music scene. Thanksgiving Song is a musical prayer, while the Ballad of Lady Silverheels tells the Colorado legend of the town of Buckskin Joe and the dancehall girl that saved many of the miners when a smallpox epidemic hit the town.
Music from Mountains is another wonderful tribute to the state of Colorado, and Answers in the Air is a beautiful ballad to close out this CD.
