Album Notes

61 years ago, Thomas Crawford Abel stopped talking. In 1947, at the ripe old age of 18, my dad left his home in New Orleans to become a monk. 41 years ago, Mary Ann Abel, the oldest of nine children, chose a similar path and became a nun where she worked as a schoolteacher. 37 years ago, Thomas and Mary Ann met, began corresponding, and quickly realized that life would be better spent together than a part.

I’ve tried to write my bio a hundred times and have realized that this is the most interesting thing about me. In many ways, where I’ve come from has made me who I am today.

When I was 18, fresh out of high school, mom and dad gave me a guitar, an unlikely gift for a guy who was completely uninvolved in the creating or writing of music up to that point in my life. I immediately dreamt of what I would do with the money once I pawned it. Like the improbable meeting of my parents, this foreign instrument would become a close friend and I haven’t stepped into a pawnshop since.

Jon Abel as a singer is amazing. His power vocals are what he is really known for. He truly has been anointed by God to sing. The songs are fun to listen to, and the lyrics are great. I really like the song "Overflow" on this CD. His new CD "More than this" was just released.. and it is amazing! 6+ stars

I will make it clear from the start. I LOVE this album. I LOVE the voice, the production, the songs and the superb sound this CD has. It's amazingly good. Sure I'm very weak of singer songwriters like Marc Jordan, Marc Cohn and Keven Jordan, I know, but I must say that this guy is sure up there playing in the same league. I'm stunned. And it's independent released... The Internet is an amazing ocean of music to explore. Musically we're in the same direction as the just mentioned artists. Add Don Henley's smooth voice and Jackson Browne's acoustic edge and we're there. Yeah I told you it was good. Explore this guy at once by surfing to his homepage www.jonabel.com Perhaps there is a bit of inflation in high gradings from me lately but what can I do when it is this good. In this case he's worth every penny of it. Almost a nine!
