Dr. Jonathan Martin


Jonathan Martin has had a diverse career as a professional trumpeter and teacher. He began his career as a cornet soloist with the U.S.A.F. “Band of the West” and continued by earning his Doctorate in Trumpet Performance from the University of Iowa. Dr. Martin has spent the past sixteen years teaching at the university level and performing in brass quintets, jazz ensembles and orchestras. He is currently principal trumpet of the Lexington (KY) Philharmonic Orchestra. Dr. Martin’s credits include a number of recordings including a world premier of “Concerto for Two Trumpets and Timpani” by Arnold Rosner and his new jazz CD: "Standard Jazz".

Dr. Martin has been a member of the following orchestras:
Quad Cities Symphony, IA, Lake Forrest Symphony, IL, Owensboro Symphony, KY, Lexington Philharmonic, KY, Bowling Green Chamber Orchestra, KY

He has performed with such diverse groups/performers as:
Bob Hope, Aretha Franklin, Jim Nabors, Bobby Shew, Dudley Moore, Linda Ronstadt, Dizzy Gillespie, The Big Band of Chicago, Lou Rawls, Tom Scott, Dionne Warwick, The Barret Deems Jazz Orchestra, The Chicago Sinfonetta, The Asbury Brass Quintet, the San Antonio Synphony, the San Antonio Brass, and a number of Broadway shows on tour through Chicago.

Jonathan Martin is a Conn-Selmer artist.
