Album Notes

REVIEW:
"Jon Batson sings his songs on his new live CD as naturally as he would sing them to you in his den. Suddenly the room is filled with interesting characters, possibly the most fascinating being "Junior." His songs are clever, articulate and concise. And Randy Tobin does a stellar job delivering great sound, as always."
- Harriet Schock, Platinum Selling Songwriter

"There are songwriters, and there are great songwriters, and Jon Batson fits into the second category. He has vocals that make you melt and lyrics that are heartfelt and touch the human soul" - gilli moon, International Recording Artist

ABOUT JON

"When you catch him on stage you will find a good mix of humor with simple stories in an easygoing Country style, stirred well with a bit of Folk, a little Pop, a dash of Blues, a pinch of Ragtime and a smattering of parody and social commentary." Victor Gutierrez, Promoter

Known for his witty ability to get a point across, Jon has entertained audiences with his songs in the US and Europe and China since the 60’s.

He has sung before the Kennedy family, performed at the prestigious Arts Club of Washington and was televised nation-wide from the National Cathedral. His musical travels have taken him to Spain, Portugal and China, where he performed before the Vice-Premier and did a special performance on the Great Wall itself.

Since moving back to North Carolina he has performed at a variety of venues including the acclaimed Night of Dreams in Raleigh, Festival for the Eno in Durham and the Carrboro Music Festival.

In addition to performing live he’s had five original stage musicals produced in Hollywood, CA and a string of album and CD releases. His first album is collectible in many countries; he is often called upon to serve as a panelist and judge at music conferences.

Jon wrote and recorded the official song for San Jacinto, California and his specialty material has appeared on such shows as The Tonight Show, Make Me Laugh, Midnight Special and Murder She Wrote. His inclusion in Marquis Who’s Who in America® is a testament to his work.

The wisdom imparted to him by Oscar Brown Jr., “To sing your own song and make it something people would enjoy”, are the words he lives by.

Jon's music is available on tape, CD and vinyl. His Book, The Songwriter's Hook Book is available here at CD Baby. His mystery adventure novel, The Rands Conspiracy and other books and stories are available at Barnes and Noble, Borders and www.lulu.com/jonbatson.

Jon Batson does a great job showcasing his many songwriting styles and interests on this live CD. It is hard to imagine a more clever set of songs in one set. And the songs demand to be played again and again, as each time a new delight is found. Give this one a try and you won't be disappointed.

Jon live at this intimate gathering shows that trademark dynamic tenor voice of his that can bark fast and break on dime and make it still sound like he's got plenty of time. Livin On The Flat is a chapter right out of my own life strategy - and I'm with the introducer when he says "where does he find those great words!" Waco's another home-hitter and the melody just grows on ya. The "schematic-rather-than- thematic" songs (songs about making songs) were also useful in the sense of the Taoist saying that the "empty portion of the bowl is its value" :)Jon makes his lightness work - you can't help but say - hey, that's a pro songwriter!!
