notes

Stephan Jones' self titled debut is a bit of a departure from the good time, bluesy rock 'n' roll of his Maine-based band the Boneheads; this album takes the listener into much deeper waters.

It is an earthy and raw affair with strong acoustic and electric guitar textures, melodic McCartney-esque bass , tasty drumming, and unique, often riff-like backup vocals. Music that speaks from the soul, with powerful lyrics, earthy guitars, and unique arrangements

Against this backdrop, Jones' lyrics and vocal delivery are undeniable.

While hard to pigeonhole, comparisons have been made to "the Band", "John Lennon" and "Richard Thompson".

  • taking me home
    author: Melissa Moody

I was just sitting here in New Jersey listening to some music when I thought of Stevie and googled him. I was so happy to find this site and hear some Stevie. It just instantly made me smile and brought me joy. It's been a while since I heard this album and it just brought me back home to Maine for a while! Thanks Stevie!

  • Another Maine-iac Roots Music Genius!
    author: Mike Elliott

This CD is an example of one of Maine's great talents. Steve brings music from his soul and transports you to a place in music that is still uncharted, crossover music that can not be categorized in any one contemporary genre. Folky roots music from the core. A style all his own.....Steve's music is all over the map.... All I can say is "Give me more!"

  • UNDENIABLE GEM
    author: NATE SCHROCK

THESE SONGS SPEAK TO A PLACE INSIDE ME THAT HASEN'T BEEN AFFECTED SINCE I FIRST HEARD TEA FOR THE TILLERMAN (CAT STEVENS) AND THE FREEWHEELIN' BOB DYLAN. STEVE'S SONGWRITING & DELIVERY IS NOTHING SHORT OF BRILLIANT, AND LEAVES YOU HUNGRY TO HEAR IT AGAIN AND AGAIN.

  • Get two just in case

  • Stephan Jones is the Man.
    author: Justin Maxwell

Own this record! It's the way music outta be!

  • Why is this man not famous?
    author: Jay Schlossberg

This CD is always in or near one of my CD players. Grown up lyrics, spectacular playing by Stephan B. and excellent back up musicians, including the odd Bonehead. The writing is most impressive, and I think if an artist like Bonnie Raitt were to get a chance to hear this stuff, she'd be covering him on her next recording. Top notch stuff....down to Earth and well-played. Give us more!

  • Loved every track!
    author: Nelson Norwood

Great songs, great arrangements and lots of soul! If you like roots rock, if you like early Rolling Stones,if you are sick of over-produced schlock, you will love this album.

  • Another strong batch of songs
    author: Bud Philbrick

This is a very good CD. There are at least 4 songs that in a perfect world would draw major airplay on any AOR station. This is a much more introspective set than Boneheads fans might be used to. Still, after about three listens I was hooked. This CD is better than anything I have heard on a major label this summer. (and I buy a lot of music). Standout tracks for me are "Cold and Hard", "Lay it all down" and "Love Lessons 101".

  • Excellent melodies and stellar lyrics, warm without being sappy
    author: Blaze Schrock

These songs have been in my head for days! Beyond other mainstream artists, this album has a strong foundation of superior musicianship and sincere, thought provoking lyrics. My new favorite!
