Album Notes

Jon Macey is a veteran Boston singer-songwriter with a long musical history. He has always been known for incisive lyrics modeled on his influences (Bob Dylan, John Lennon, ABBA, and Hank Williams) fused with pop melodies that are played with the 2 guitar, classic Boston/New York sound. In the mid-1970s, Macey's band Fox Pass was in the forefront of the Boston New Wave scene, with a Velvet Underground-type of sound. In the early 1980s, he was living in Manhattan and performing with Tom Dickie and the Desires, with a couple of hit records on the Mercury label. The band was managed by the infamous Tommy Mottola. The Desires were a very New York Lower East Side group. When Macey returned to Boston, he developed a more folk-rock, melodic style. Throughout the 1990s, his Boston-based band, Macey's Parade, played clubs and concert halls. They released a well-received album in 1993. Macey's songs continued to be personal as well as observational. His concern for social causes is reflected in the fact that he has performed at numerous benefits throughout his career.
Macey is now a producer/songwriter in the Boston area with his own recording studio. His new album is titled Actuality in Process. The music is hypnotic pop/rock with a mystical twist. The songs range from 1960s-styled rock in a Beatles/Byrds mode to more folkish/Dylan songs. The lyrics deal with transformation and transcendence on multiple levels. The CD includes a lyric book with photos of all the guest musicians.
This album includes songs like "She's the Groove" with a hypnotic repetitive beat, Revolver-like chorus, and lyrics about the longing for innocence. All in a little over 3 minutes! "The True Lost Soul" begins with a classic Byrds 12 string riff and launches into a tale about a long lost friend. Very catchy chorus. Next is "Junk Mail" with it's roots/blues/T Rex amalgam, and lyrics about blasting away all the crap destructive messages in the mind and in this world. For much more detail, and a little philosophical analysis, go to the Jon Macey site.

Pop music with a vision!
author: StudioGirl
Jon Macey has produced a CD that features poetic lyrics and catchy tunes. The jangly guitars and in-the-groove rhythms render immensely compelling music, highlighted by lyrics with emotionally depth and complexity. This is a work by an artist who has truly come into his own, while paying homage to his own musical history and to the important and varied artists who have been his long-standing influences (Dylan, the Velvet Underground, Byrds, Lennon and ABBA!) A masterful accomplishment by a very talented musician, with support by many fine Boston-area musicians.

Macey Never Dies
author: EldaStatesman
Once again, Jon Macey has made a high quality album of well written songs. His lyrical niche on this record is the process of transformation, using a variety of at-times paradoxical musical settings. I personally can hear songs about child abuse, addiction, and regret, along with God, community, and endurance. The glass is half full AND half empty for Macey, a 50/50 deal at best. But ultimately, there is a tremendous joy here; the sound of musicians beating the odds. Buy it because you will love it!

Great pop-rock is good for the soul!!!
author: Mr. Curt
Solid, adult pop-tunes and stellar musicianship that deal with a bevy of emotions and situations. Neither trendy nor stylish, Jon Macey continues to create a modern sound containing elements of his 60's/70's influences and the values of contemporary rocksters. Having witnessed the arc of his talent here in Boston, I can safely say he's proved he's no flash of the moment.
