Album Notes

This is jon\'s fifth studio album. loosely based upon the classic orwell novel transposed to the year 1984. Jon\'s work is considered to be some of the best released in this genre. The 1995 album \"augur\" being a noted example of pushing the forefront of electronica...regularly changing hands for 100 bucks a time for a new copy. Based on this alone, this is a wise investment if your serious about electronic music.
The price reflects this. Artwork is by renowned london artist Simon Reuben White and features an original photomontage by him. Simon currently curates at the elevator and the whitechapel galleries in east london. This is a guerilla audio product, and features art and sentiments that are simply NOT going to fly on a 21st century major label.
Jon has been recording music for film and t.v but has returned of late with a major recording campaign. Perhaps the only electronic artist to be played on national bbc radio 2 by both bob harris and john peel. Don\'t buy this if you want the same old tired formulas that dance and electronica presents us with these days. This lp is primarily a vocal led affair, but tracks like \"omnipresent\" show jon\'s trademark ambient treatments to full effect. Perhaps not the most widely known about of electronic artists, nevertheless highly regarded and sought after. It is highly likely that future presses of this lp will not feature the same artwork etc etc. Anyway, don\'t take our word for it. Accept no imitations. Accept no impostors. This
is 1984.

This album is a work of genius. It\'s not often that I have the pleasure of happening across an album that is perfectly resolved. However, this one is. Everything is in the right place, in the right quantities, and with the right feel and intent. In other words, Jon Ryman got it right -- all of it. I highly recommend this CD. Do yourself a favour and order this one.

This starts off with a classical sounding intro before launching into a real synth-pop gem \"Humanized\" (my favorite) and takes you on a trip into some really cool electronica. This doesn\'t come across as just layers of sound but well thought songwriting. The vocals are really melodic...kinda Roxy-music meets Bowie-esque...the \"machine\" vocals are a pleasant suprise when they arrive and all in all one of the most original electronica CD\'s I have heard in a long time.

Bought after checking out this dude's myspace....and being really impressed. There should be more of stuff like this...what ever happened to subversive electronica? Anyway, I'm really feeling this CD at the mo.

this is like a summary of all thats exciting about electronic music. i really like the melodies and it seems to flow really well. I kind of remember the novel from high school days but it seems to be more about a fictional world than a real one. I have never heard of this guy before but apparently he's been around a while. I love it when i can find something like this which feels like i might still be listening in 5 years time. Cool CD.
