Album Notes

The Jons -- Bio

Loved in their hometown of Tucson for their zany stage antics and catchy songs, the Jons are ready to take the world by storm with the release of their upcoming album The Jons’ Greatest Hits Pt. 2.

The five childhood friends from Nogales showed a knack for strong musicianship and work ethic early on in their music careers with the formation of MLTB (More Luck Than Buck) in 1996. Even then, the later Jons performed steadily in the United States and Mexico, opening up for local favorites like Scared of Chaka and international acts alike.

After a short hiatus, in 2001 MLTB added Ricardo, an unknown to the band, and was reformed in Tucson as the Jons, quickly forging ahead in their music careers by starting work on their first album with Jim Waters (Sonic Youth, Jon Spencer Blues Explosion) at Waterworks West Recording. The resulting album Wine at the Hilltop (2002) showed amazing skills and rocksensibility for musicians of so young an age and their efforts were rewarded with album sales of over 5,000 in Tucson alone.

Their successful 2004 tour of the West Coast and increasingly larger local audiences have proved the Jons’ ability to captivate crowds with their sound, look and attitude. Maybe it’s their blazing horns, maybe it’s their ability to rock bilingually or maybe it’s just their whole package, but the Jons have what it takes to create a unique and memorable mark on world music.

"The Jons' newest slick release, Greatest Hits Vol. II ... shows they've matured in many ways. The album puts the band at the top of the heap with their peers locally, and sets the stage for them to become competitive on national (¡Y international, vato!) level."

"Maybe it's down to how often they switch instruments, but The Jons have always given off the vibe, more than most bands, that they're a truly collaborative ensemble. Whether or not that's actually true, if anything, Greatest Hits Vol. II reinforces that notion--and it couldn't be more refreshing."
