Album Notes

Far too often the media focuses on what’s wrong with our youth…it’s seldom that the good they do is celebrated. “Good” is just what saxophonist Joseph Edwards provides. This young talent has played with renowned artists (like Walter Beasley, Phillip Carter, and Brian Lenair), performed in world-famous venues (Warner Theatre and Blues Alley), and is currently attending college at the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC). Joseph has just released his second recording.

Entitled “The People’s Gathering,” the album takes listeners on a musical journey through numerous genres and eras…from the funky, Stevie Wonder inspired “1972,” to the traditional gospel stylings of hymns like “Blessed Assurance,” Joe and legendary artist-producer Phillip Carter have created an album worthy of praise. Dedicated to his great-grandmother (affectionately known as “Nana”), “The People’s Gathering” is a celebratory CD. Of it, Joe says, “I once heard heaven described as a place where we are gathered to our people. That’s a powerful image for me. As we produced this album, I kept imagining a place where everything is right with the world…a place where you’re surrounded by friends and family, yes…but more importantly by God’s love. With this album I wanted to conjure an image of heaven. I wanted to (as best I could) give people my vision of love through music.”

Refreshing
author: Michael Stevens
It has been truly refreshing to listen to this young man! From the sounds that attract the older generations, with a modern day twist (Wade In the Water; Down By The Riverside), to the more contemporary tones "Nana's Song" and "Just Wanna Praise You", Joseph Edwards has really blended together something special. This is a simply "must add" to your collection! Believe me, you will not regret this one!

This CD is wonderful. I got a pre-release from the artist a few weeks back. I listen to it everyday! I really like Nana\'s Song. Overall, it\'s a wonderful collection of songs...some are familiar hymns (like Blessed Assurance) and others are originals. You\'ve gotta add this one to your collection
