My name is Joseph Mortela; I am a practiced musician perpetuating creative acoustic originals. As a singer songwriter I prefer to play original music, but I still enjoy playing a good cover-tune now and then.
I am routinely performing for venues on the bay and central valley, such as the East Village, Orchard Valley, Mars hill, Brooksdale Inn, Johnny’s bar & Grill, Gaslighter, and CultureWorks.
My genre would be classified as blending traditional acoustic sounds with a modern day alternative rock creating captivating sounds and independent art.
The acoustic versions of these songs have been recreated into a full band version by including a few new musicians playing lead and rhythm guitar, as well as a percussionist who sits in and give the songs a whole new feel. Thus, gives me the unique ability to perform the music solo or in a band, depending on the atmosphere the venue is looking for at the time.

Joseph Mortela at East Village Coffee Lounge
Raw, unplugged, innovative and a one-man force to be reckoned with, Joseph Mortela sits alone with his six string at East Village tonight. He does the acoustic artist bit better than most, but what sets him apart are his inventive creations like “Strung Along,” a ghostly hymn worth experiencing and his extremely versatile playing. He’s like a flamenco guitarist with a bard’s voice and a poet’s sensibility. [MF]
Joseph Mortela on stage
“Authentic acoustic melodies say sit back, relax, have a drink, and enjoy the piercing voice of Joseph Mortela and the sweet sound of his guitar.
The sounds of his acoustic originals are soul dwelling lyrics with songs that are smoky, yet clever. While embracing his not so humble guitar he gently crafts rhythms and melodies together for your listening pleasure.
Close your eyes and listen, it’s not your common cover song s, but good old fashion songwriting and performing, delivered with enviable aplomb. -CC
