Album Notes

Joshua P. James’ debut full length album, “As Long As I Am Tall”, was recorded in analog late summer of 2010 using good old fashioned tape echo and microphones a half century old or more. Many of the tracks on the album were cut to tape on the first take. The aim was to create an album with the dusty feel of a classic record collection and the authenticity of a live performance. The little errors were left in, the tape hiss embraced and the dynamics of the performance maintained. “As Long As I Am Tall” is a collection of songs surrounded by all the classic themes relayed through Joshua P. James’ unique style of writing. It’s at times clever and sardonic and at others heart warming and lovelorn. Many guests from Columbus, Ohio's diverse music scene help flesh out the tall thin frame.

Like the Johns and Johnnies of the 1950s and 60s, Joshua P. James writes songs that are country and folk and pop all dancing together trying not to step on each others’ toes. Those songs are informed by personal experience and the traveling bone and the folks encountered along the adventures (albeit mostly women). Now, a recent emergence in the burgeoning Americana scene in Columbus, Joshua wants only to play some decent songs for some decent folks wherever that may be, whether around campfires or in packed bars or to the sound guy and few loyal fans, if there’s an ear that’ll listen, Joshua’s got a song to feed it.
