Album Notes

“FAR AND AWAY”
“Joss Jaffe’s debut album, titled Off Into the Unknown, [presents] eastern-tinged, reggae-infused music. A formally trained and skillfully talented tabla player, Jaffe has practiced devotional chanting since he was a young boy, and studied drumming with Nepalese [tabla] master Homnath Upadhyaya.” - Santa Barbara Independant

“WONDERFUL”
“[His] voice is very soothing with the delicate instrumentation. The production doesn't leave much to be desired.” – Tyler Blue, Writer & Music Reviewer

“BEAUTIFUL”
“The music blends ancient traditions with modern techniques.” – John Coinman, Musician

Released in 2007, Off Into the Unknown is a beautiful and personal statement from artist Joss Jaffe. His debut album weaves together musical threads from India, reggae music and Joss’ own inspired poetry and composition. Traditional Indian instrumentation of tabla, dotar and tamboura mix with bass, acoustic guitar, keys, and drum beats to create spacious soundscapes for the vibrant and uplifting vocals.

Recorded in the Sonoran desert in Tucson Arizona, the first ten tracks were mixed and co-produced by Tucson guitar legend Don Reeve. Bay Area dub/electronica scientist Timonkey mixed and co-produced the final track. Off Into the Unknown was mastered by Calexico engineer Craig Schumacher at the famed Wavelab studio in Tucson.
