With Honeysuckle Sweets Jos Wijnen enters the world of Americana. Ok, it’s crowded out there, but in the way the songs are created and produced, he presents an authentic voice. Jos Wijnen aka Zjos has been a songwriter since the 1970`s. However, it was not until 2005 the Dutch songwriter released his first songs. The EP Autumn Outtakes, things to come was a glimpse of what was about to come, indeed. Finally, in 2008 his debut album was (self)released. Honeysuckle Sweets was recorded in the Wild Age Studio of Martin van de Vrugt in Deventer, Holland.
Honeysuckle Sweets shows the outcome of the collaboration between instrumentalist, songwriter and producer Martin van de Vrugt and the songwriter, singer and guitar player Jos Wijnen. Together with the magnificent voice of Jolanda Peters, the meandering accordion of Han Kooistra and Martin’s steel guitar, banjo, mandolin and Turkish oud, the songs started to grow into “honeysuckle sweets”. Perfectly blended harmonies accompany the stories, reminiscences and hommages.
Inspired by literature and ordinary day observations, the stories of people and their quests for love, their longings and their abhorrence of war, come to life. “I want to make the ordinary life special. I like to be in the world of thoughts and stories, a sort of second life in my mind. By using my imagination and putting the results into songs I can get them out of my head and show them to the world”.
