Robert Armstrong is a founding member of R. Crumb and the Cheap Suit Serenaders. He played musical saw on the sound track of One Flew Over the Cookoo's Nest. He continues to play with the Cheap Suits, as well as with Sourdough Slim, Janet Kline, and others. He's also a well-known graphic artist who did our CD cover (8 panels) as well as the covers of many other CDs and records. He plays Hawaiian steel guitar, uke, 6- and 5-string banjos, musical saw, jug and percussion.
Keith Cary is a musician and instrument builder. He built or modified many of the instruments on the CD. His tastes run from back-woods country to free-form improvization. He has performed or recorded with Jolie Holland, John Tchicai, and John Vanderslice, among others. He plays cello, resonator mandolin, aluminum string bass, fiddle, harmonica, tuba, and homemade pots-and-pans cello.
Bill Scholer is a blues and jazz performer well-known in the Sacramento Valley and the San Francisco Bay Area for his rockin' renditions of blues standards as well as his own jazz and blues compositions. He has performed with many famous artists, including Barry Melton, of The Fish and John Tchicai. He plays 6- and 12-string guitars and resonator bottleneck guitar.
We all live in Northern California, between SF and Sacramento.

A review in french...

Eclectic, loose, & fun old timey music
author: Greg Hughes
A great romp through an eclectic bunch of music mixing music as different as old time Hawaiian, rock, 20's & 30's pop, & Thelonious Monk. These guys have a loose and easygoing style and, while they're definitely not slavish traditionalists, they really sound like they're having a lot of fun putting their own spin on things. A diverse blend of instruments, from Bob Armstrong's old National tricone, to tuba, accordion, musical saw & Keith Cary's Commodium (a resonator mandolin made from a bedpan) makes this music sound different than anything you're likely to hear on radio. This reminds me of the type of music people would play just for fun on someone's front porch in the days before radio started making music slick & polished for mass consumption.

Hooray, the Joy Buzzards are here!
author: Big Al Davies
If you like old-timey rootsy good time music then this CD is for you. Hooray they are hanging father sounds like the Cheap Suit serenaders playing with the Bad Livers, and for good reason, Bob Armstrong is here along with Bill and Keith. There is a fine mix of slide guitar, quirky material such as nuts and bolts. Six feet under is a great find and the bottlenecks, jugs, dog-house bass and mandolin on Vicksberg Stomp just make my day.
Make yours, have a listen and buy this.
