Album Notes

Joyce Spadoro
"Joyce is a wonderfully talented singer-songwriter", wrote Scott Stamper, talent buyer for the Stone Pony, Asbury Park, NJ, after her appearance there as opening act for Tuck and Patti. "Joyce's music touches all parts of the mind and soul. Her exciting original songs have a life of their own. She is a 'must see' live act."

Joyce is an emotionally engaging artist who performs many styles with vibrant authenticity, while always maintaining her unique artistic vision.

Her vocal command spans the range of material between the lyrical and legit, the grittiest jazz and blues, and the vast palette in between. Her piano and keyboard style reflects this same sensitivity, with her heart for improvisation and exploration always reaching out to touch the heart of the listener. Jerry Coker, author of the landmark book, Improvising Jazz, recognized Joyce as a "very gifted player." Renowned jazz pianist, Joanne Brackeen, also mentored Joyce in jazz piano and composition.

Joyce has performed in concerts, supperclubs, musical theatre, for private affairs and local "live" TV. She appears regularly as a soloist and with ensembles in the New York- Metro Area, as well as nationally and abroad.

"Joyce Spadoro" is Joyce's first CD release! It has fifteen of Joyce's original tunes combining the intimacy of pure piano and vocals, the shimmer of studio recordings and the excitement of her live performance with a four piece band at the Stone Pony.

Joyce's intelligent and heartfelt lyrics will draw you into a world where emotions run deep. There's no denial of life's rawness, but spiritual healing always triumphs.

From the chant-like "Waiting", to the hauntingly tender personal testimony "The Potter's Chair", to the driving, modern jazz instrumental "Waiting For San Francisco Snow", you will discover an artist, who like an alchemist, has spun gold from lead. Joyce has taken the inner life and given it a new incarnation with the triple artistry of her poetry, her soul- resonating piano playing, and her vocals, which come straight from the heart and summon the angels.

The artist's voice and piano are like a crane in migration, following the terrain for direction home, soaring when necessary, descending when completed, and between the two is the splendor of her lyrics.Amen to more.

Loved this CD! A great variety of songs, beautifully written and deftly performed. I easily got drawn into a sea of emotions via textured harmonies and a lush vocal style. The lyrics portray intelligence and maturaty in the dreams and aspirations of the artist, but feelings to which we can all relate. I can hardly wait for a second CD!
