Guitars, bass and drums for this first Joyliner LP, spanning down-to-the-bone indie rock (think Sugar meets the National?) to quirky pop-core (lyrics that make you wonder what this ballad is about). Recorded in Albini's favorite European studio.

Songs about an awkward left hand, a tattoo that reads 'I'm over you now', a goth girl come clean, love at fist stalk, ... songs in Joyliner's 'Mental' don't carry messages, but ring many bells, bells that chime like all these saturated guitars, recorded at famous Studio Black Box near Angers, France (Shellac at Action Park, dEUS's Pocket Revolution, Anna Calvi, the next Wedding Present, Chokebore), pure vintage sound for Joyliner's art-rock. The opening song 'my awkward left hand' gives a sense of where they have been heading for the last decade, the slightly obsessive yet humorous lyrics, the sheer energy of heavy guitars that manage to sound pop. No doubt, they are having serious fun doing this and even their darkest songs will make you smile (because, yes, we all like good well-crafted rock songs, don't we?)
