jenny owen youngs is a feisty, hyper-sensitive, disease-free singer/songwriter/former girl scout who wants to be your friend. claiming influences from beck to jesus christ superstar to britney spears, her music is an echo of erin mckeown hopping into jeff buckley's pontiac, cruising backwoods alabama red dirt roads and singing along to the sundays and nick drake. her songs straddle the heart-wrenching and the tongue-in-cheek and say giddyup.

raised in the lush greenery of northwest new jersey amongst cows, haystacks, and eastern deciduous forest, our heroine began singing immediately upon exiting the womb. after exploring the flute (elementary school) and the tuba (junior high), jenny finally stepped up to the guitar at the tender age of fourteen and, as they say, got down to business.

her current goals include musically causing the hair on your arms to stand up, learning greek, and like fellow jersey boy Jon Bon, seeing a million faces and rocking them all.

    I bought this album after a friend recommended me to check out Jenny's Myspace. After downloading Fuck Was I and having it on high rotation for a week or so I was compelled to buy the album. I was transfixed from beginning to end. Every song casts a spell on the listener, and the vocal draws you in. The sublime Voice On Tape is a highlight feturing a cameo visit from (one assumes) Jenny's friend Regina Spektor. Please buy this CD you can thank me later.

    I am a lyrics guy and this album comes up with the goods. This girl can write like I wish I could. Ms. Owen is able to talk about well-known situations but with a fresh perspective. Her sense of humor also shines through in the songs. One of my favorite new discoveries of this year.

    What I love about this artist is that she dodges the typical stereotypes and comparisons that seem to surround young female musicians in today’s industry, by offering up smart-ass lyrics that smack with total honesty. This album is EXCELLENT. You're not going to find anything more real then Jenny Owen Youngs. Stop debating on whether or not to buy this album, just do it. It's totally worth your hard earned $!
