Album Notes

Joshua Payne is one of the most abundantly gifted of a new breed of singer and songwriter, blessed with a big, classically-trained voice and a soul to match. Same Shoes Second Verse, his sophomore CD, introduces again, not only an accomplished singer with experience in every musical genre from opera to rock, but also a lyricist and composer of uncommon sensitivity and power, whose work is informed by the depth of his life experience. " 'Same Shoes Second Verse' isn't meant to fool you. I did this record at home on Garage Band using an old G4. It's certianly raw and demoesque but makes the point: Sometimes life throws stuff at you and it just sucks, but you roll with it, you create, you spin it and when you're ready, you take that pain and find beauty in it. That's 'same shoes 2nd verse' for me." -Joshua Payne on his sophmore album

This album is fantastic! The lyrics and music are beautiful and so full of passion. I love this album much more than "Your Love My Home". My favourite tracks are "Safely in Love" and "Not Alone". I highly recommend this cd.

Joshua Payne is a rarity among contemporary musicians. He puts his soul into his work. It’s in the way that he sings and the words that he writes. It’s in every note that you hear…Same Shoes 2nd Verse tells the sweetest and saddest of all love stories in a way that listeners cannot help but feel. Altoghether, it is a work of art.

Expected more, but ...

First of all, I'd like to say that I still think that Joshua is a good singer/songwriter and would deserve to be more famous - but I'm not sure if the new CD will help to make that happen. The songwriting is still good, the musical arrangements okay, but often sound the same. My favorite track is No 2, for it sounds like Joshuas first CD (Piano: Omartian). But the main reason for giving it only 3 stars is that the sound sometimes seems to be mixed bad and I really have problems hearing track 4 because of that. Then again it's charming that this CD sounds like a demo tape ... Anyhow I recommend this CD due to the lyrics, the voice and its authentic emotional performance.
